Our Coat of Arms
The Lodge has the privilege of its own Coat of Arms and it gives the Lodge the legal right to wear the Lodge Crest, which appears on our Lodge Dress Aprons.
The ‘Matriculation Certificate’ from the Court of The Lord Lyon King of Arms and recorded in the register, 24th March 1958, in Edinburgh is on the South side of the East wall of the Temple. The Crest is divided into two, on the right hand side is the Arms of the Grand Lodge of Scotland. On the top of the left hand side, an antique crown and ermine covered triangle representing Moot Hill at Scoon Palace and recalls the Lodge’s Royal connections, while beneath these is a stylized Heraldic Double Headed Eagle from the old Coat of Arms of the City of Perth.
The text of the Matriculation Certificate follows:
The Right Worshipful Master and Brethren of the ancient Masonic Lodge Scoon and Perth, No.3 (The Lodge of Scone), having by Petition unto the Lord Lyon King of Arms of date 17 December 1957 SHEWN; That the Petitioners form a Masonic Lodge of great antiquity and although the date of their foundation is no longer known their Mutual Contract dated 24 December 1658 declares their then tradition that the Lodge had existed for four hundred three score and five years, as also ( what must have been within living memory at the time of the Mutual Contract) that when John Mylne was Master of the said Lodge “his majestic King James the Sixt of blessed memorie…(be the King’s own desire) entered ffriemen, measone, and fellow craft” by the said John Mylne, whereafter the said King James was maintained “as ane member of the Lodge of Scone”: That on 19 May 1742 the said Lodge received a Charter of Confirmation and Communication from the Grand Lodge of Scotland “ declaring their precedence in the Grand Lodge to be and commence from 24 December 1658 the date of the Contract before mentioned which is recorded in the books of the Grand Lodge”; the said Lodge Scoon & Perth is therefore entered as No.3 on the Roll of the Grand Lodge of Scotland: That on the moothill of Scone was the inauguration place of the Kings of the Picts and the scene of the coronation of Charles II as King of Scots; that during the Middle Ages the City of Perth was from time to time the capital city of the realm: That ensigns Armorial are recorded in the Public Register of All Arms and Bearings in Scotland (Vol. 27 Fol. 62) of date 20 October 1927 in name of the said Grand Lodge of Ancient, Free and Accepted Masons of Scotland: And the Petitioners having prayed that Arms might be matriculated in their name in the said Public register of Arms The Lord Lyon King of Arms by interlocutor of date 6 January 1958 Granted Warrant to the Lyon Clerk to matriculate in the Public Register of All Arms and Bearings in Scotland in name of Lodge Scoon & Perth, No.3, the following Ensigns Armorial, videlicet: - per pale, dexter, per fess Azure and Or, a pile issuant from the base counterchanged ermine and Gules, ensigned of an antique crown in chief of the Second, and charged of a double-headed eagle also of the Second in base; sinister, Vert, on a chevron Or, between three towers proper, a pair of compasses extended chevronwise Sable, and in an Escrol below the same this Motto TRUST IN GOD. Matriculated the 24th day of March 1958. Extracted furth of the 88th Page of the 41st Volume of the Public Register of All Arms and Bearings in Scotland this 24th day of March 1958.
